White Michael Vick

You might have heard about the White Michael Vick picture that ESPN had published in one of their articles and on their website. They did this along with the headline of "What if Michael Vick Were White?". The article goes on to ask the question if the convicted quarterback would have been judged lighter if he was white.
Dyer's concept of white invisibility fits perfectly with the issue of this picture. That if Michael Vick had been white and charged with dog fighting and cruelty to animals then people wouldn't have been so harsh on him. Its a ridiculous statement and a ridiculous question to ask.
When seeing the picture along with the article it makes me feel uncomfortable. It says that because I am white, I wont be viewed as criminally intense rather than if I was black or hispanic.
Richard Dyer is right and its seen in this photo. Its something that needs to be reversed though. When it comes to the law everyone should be judged the same. Society needs to look past race, gender, and ethnicity when it comes to justice because Its been said that true justice is blind.

  1. Interesting!!! Honestly, looking at the picture itself, the normalcy of whiteness completely disappears for me. In fact, it’s really kind of scary. I don’t like it at all. It creeps me out. In a way, this makes him stand out even more!!! Crazy!!! Love the article!
