violence

http://www.tylershields.com/2011/09/01/heather-morris/

These are photos of Heather Morris who is on Glee. This was a photo shoot that depicted her as having bruises especially a large black eye. What was interesting to me was the title of the post and how the pictures were taken. The title of shoot was 'Heather Morris: Even Barbies have bruises.' She is shown as a sort of modernized 50's ish housewife, with her clothing, and with an iron and ironing board. This seems to be sort of glamorizing domestic violence. Now I don’t know if this is supposed to be showing that the work of a housewife kills you but I’m pretty sure this is just about a husband beating up his wife, and with a popular tv star as the center character I think this is sending a bad message to the young people who watch this show. What person would want their child growing up seeing this message? Plus honestly how would you feel about this if you were a victim or domestic violence? Was it this glamorous? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. I think the media needs to stop glamorizing violence like this. It get ingrained into people, especially young kids even if you don’t think it is.

I completely agree with your statements brought forth. Reading through the comments on the web page itself, we see those who would agree with the horror you find in these pics, while others have nothing but praise for the violent depictions of domestic life. Upon reflection of the apparent schism between opinions, we could possible conclude that within these web page comments, there are representations of culture as well as counterculture at work here. Fascinating that those who simply admire the pictures are blind, for they truly do not see the objective evil portrayed and even more importantly--as you have pointed out-- marketed to the world culture.
