Is Smoking Cigarette Sin?

To people who are not christian, sure smoking cigarette is not sin at all and it has nothing to do with the law either. May be you are expecting me to say the following: To people who are christian, smoking cigarette is definitely sin. No, I am not going to say it because I do not see smoking cigarette as a sin but instead, it is about how much the person cares about God's words. As far as I know, Bible did not talk about smoking cigarette but instead it did talk about that our body is the temple of god and the place for the holy spirit. In order words, it is saying that it's better not to smoke because you do not want to contaminate the temple of god inside you. However, indeed there are some well-known christian do smoke, for instance, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Chuck Colson etc.

Christian is also human being, there are times that christian are tempted to do something they perhaps shouldn't, christian would still have addiction of something, so instead of judging whether or not christian should smoke, we should talk about whether or not a person should smoke. I don't know what goods smoking cigarette does to a person, although I have heard a lot of sayings that smoking cigarette can help people to stay awake and to lose weight. But for sure everybody like me have heard a lot of disadvantages of smoking cigarette, needless to say what they are.

Smoking cigarette has been stereotyped by the society and a lot of people that that it is a bad impact and bag image, christian who stop smoking, they care about the big picture, so that people won't say that it's okay to smoke because christian smokes as well. According to Bible, salvation does not depend on how good or bad the person is, but how much he or she has faith in god. I hope people nowadays can be more open minded on this particular issue, but needless to say health is always important and priceless to everyone.
